If you would’ve asked me about different money making ideas a couple years ago I wouldn’t really know where to start.
Funny enough the first set of money I made online was from a YouTube video of a cricket game. I made a whopping $0.22! Just enough money to buy a tasty lollipop. Yea, sad I know but I made that video without looking to make any money from it.
One lollipop later and a little enthusiasm created an urge to find creative ways to make money from just having a computer and an internet connection.
These methods I found won’t make you an instant millionaire but if you use them effectively you can make a decent part-time or even full-time income depending on how far you are willing to commit yourself to them.
The Best Money Making Ideas To Start Today
1. Start a Blog
Blogging is a great way to make money online by writing about topics you are truly passionate about. I’m sorry I didn’t start sooner. Basically, you can use ads, affiliate marketing, online courses, sponsored posts, and more to monetize your blog.
Take my free online course, Growing Dollars from Blogging, to learn how to start a blog and make money today!
It may take some time but there’s a lot of money to be earned through blogging if you are willing to put in the work. I do it part-time and I’m still able to make some extra income I wouldn’t have otherwise earned. Imagine if I did it (eventually I will) full-time!
Also, in the course, I’ll show you how you can get website hosting for only $2.65/month.
2. Become a Freelancer
This is one of the best ways I made money online. Imagine the joy of making money without being stuck behind a desk at a boring 9-5 job, all in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. That’s it!
There are several websites that match freelancers to clients. My favorite and the one that I use is Upwork. It’s what I used as a student and was able to earn some extra cash. Thousands of new jobs are posted every day so you are sure to find work that appeals to you.
I’ll be releasing a course later this year to teach you how to win jobs on Upwork. You can sign up on the waiting list here.
3. Take Surveys
Here’s a simple way to earn some extra dough in your free time. All you need to do is sign up on the survey site with an email address and choose available surveys to complete. They often pay in gift cards or even cash through PayPal or other services.

4. Start User Testing
User Testing is perfect for people who stay at home or have easy access a computer.
Basically, you review a company’s website to give them an idea of how user-friendly it is. You are asked to complete a set of tasks while giving your thoughts on how the website looks and functions. Then you can be paid $3-$20 depending on the type of test.
One user testing site I really like is Validately.

5. Dropship Products
Dropshipping is a popular online business where someone creates an online store but doesn’t purchase products until the customer orders them. Instead, when a customer purchases an item from the online store, it’s then purchased by the owner of that store directly from manufacturers and delivered directly to the customer’s address.
I’ll be releasing a course on how to start dropshipping later this year but you can sign up for the waiting list here and you’ll be the first to know.
6. Sell your old stuff
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I bet there’s stuff you don’t use currently lying around your home that could be sold online. There are people out there who actually need that stuff and will pay for them. Instead of trying to find individual buyers sell your old items with Decluttr.
Using Decluttr you can sell CDs, DVDs, Games, Books, Tech and even LEGO bricks. All you have to do is:
- Download the Decluttr app here.
- Scan the barcode for the items you want to sell.
- Pack the items in a box and stick the free shipping label (sent to you by Decluttr) onto your box with some tape.
- Drop your box off at the nearest UPS Store, Customer Center, Authorized Retail Outlet or even to a UPS driver.
- Get paid the day after your items arrive at Decluttr’s warehouse by Direct Deposit, PayPal or Check.
7. Write an e-book
You can even create your own online store with Shopify to sell your e-book or any other digital item.
8. Create an online course
Online courses are one of the most profitable digital items you can sell. People are constantly looking to learn new skills and if you have the knowledge to help them why not get paid for sharing it?
When I create an online course there’s only one site I love to use and that’s Teachable. There’s a free plan which you could start with and upgrade later if you need more features.
Take a look at the course I made using Teachable here.
9. Browse the web
Yup, you read it right. You can actually make money by just searching the web like you normally do.
All you have to do is create a free account at Swagbucks and set it as your default search engine. Then you accumulate points by searching the web which could be exchanged for rewards like Amazon gift cards, games, computers, and more!
Go to Swagbucks here and start earning!
10. Invest in Peer-to-Peer Lending
This is investing with a twist. A popular site called Lending club allows normal people (lenders) to lend their money to other people (borrowers) who need it. It’s called peer-to-peer lending.
You’ll make money when the borrower pays back the borrowed amount and the interest on the money borrowed. As with any type of investment, there are risks but if you’re looking to grow your savings then it doesn’t hurt to try it.
11. Automate your Investing
Investing is not as complicated as most people think it is. In a nutshell, investing is the process of lending your money with an aim to get back what you lent plus some extra called interest. Of course there is risk involved but there are many investments with low-risk levels.

12. Invest your spare change
Let’s say you buy a $3.75 espresso from Starbucks. Wouldn’t it be cool to pay $4 instead where the extra 25 cents is automatically saved and invested for you?
Acorns fully automates the process of investing the extra money, called roundups, into stocks and bonds to help you save and make more money.
13. Invest in Real Estate
Fundrise is a platform that allows investors, like you, to invest in private real estate with historical annual returns of up to 12.3%. It’s an alternative to investing in stocks.
Here are some things I like about Fundrise:
- You can create a starter portfolio for as little as $500.
- Your investment is diversified among several different real estate properties.
- The management team identifies, acquires and improves real estate with your investments so you can just sit back and watch your money grow.
- After investing more than $1,000 you can choose an advanced plan for no extra cost.

14. Open a High-Interest Savings Account
The average savings account pays 0.09% in interest per year. So if you had $1,000 in a savings account at that rate in 10 years your balance should be about $1,009.
When you do the math that’s $9 in interest…in 10 years!
Not worth your money right? You’re better off keeping that money under your bed.
If you want one of the least risky ways to increase your wealth passively, then a high-interest savings account is the way to go. You can find some of the best savings accounts here.
15. List your Room (Apartment)
If you have a room in your house or an apartment that you don’t use. Why not let someone occupy that unused space so you can pocket some extra money to pay the bills, buy food, or just build your savings? If this sounds like you, it’s time for you to become an Airbnb host.
Here are some tips to get you started:
- Go to Airbnb and sign up to become a host.
- Take high-quality photos of the living space you are making available.
- List any important nearby locations and room features which would make your living space unique and attractive.
- Set cheaper rates to build up your reputation then increase them after you receive some good reviews.
- After a guest completes their stay clean the space thoroughly for the next guest.
16. Share your shopping history
Willing to trade your shopping history for money? Shoptracker is a tool used by The Harris Poll Online Panel to get a better understanding of how people are using their electronic devices to make purchases on Amazon.
The app collects information about your purchases made on Amazon.com (e.g. what you’ve bought, when you’ve bought it, price) and automatically removes your name, shipping address, and any personal payment (credit card) information before your purchase history is shared.
Sign up for FREE, sync up to 3 of your Amazon accounts with the app and earn a $3 Visa gift card every month (for each account) you have your account synced. That’s $36 a year in Visa gift vouchers for one Amazon account!
17. Share your computer usage stats
Join the Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel and get paid for sharing your computer history. They are a research company which examines your internet usage to build a picture of internet behavior but their app never collects the content of visited websites, user IDs, passwords, or other private information.
To get started for free all you have to do is:
- Answer a few registration questions (e.g. about you, your household, and the devices you use).
- Download the safe and secure Nielsen App to all of your mobile devices (it is non-invasive and won’t impact device performance).
- Install the app and get paid ($50 for each mobile device every year the app is installed) just for using the Internet as you do normally!
18. Sell Stock Photography
Have a great camera or simply using your iphone? You can make some extra cash with photos you took on that last vacation trip.
However, not any photo will do. Pictures you take should make the person looking at them feel like they are actually there in the moment.
So it’s time to whip out those photographer skills and make money from photos on your phone.
19. Become a Pet Sitter
Pet sitting is such a simple job almost anyone can do it. There are lots of people who are too busy to take care of their dogs at all times. The difficulty is usually finding them. Here’s where Rover helps.
Rover is a platform which connects dog sitters to dog owners. As a sitter, you can perform services like dog boarding, house sitting, and dog walking. You can even earn up to $1,000 with this side hustle.
20. Watch videos online
“Watch a video and get money? That can’t be real.”
It’s quite real. As you already know about Swagbucks, a popular rewards site that pays you for doing different things like taking surveys. What you might not know is that you can watch videos (advertisements) on the site and get rewarded for it.
The best part about it is you don’t even have to actually watch the video. You could play it on your laptop while you’re watching tv or using your phone.
21. Start a YouTube channel
Like starting a blog, having a YouTube channel is a great way to talk about anything you have interest in. People that share similar interests will watch your videos and you can get paid from advertisements, sponsored videos and affiliate links in your videos and video descriptions.
You should always aim to produce good content in order to attract subscribers who may follow your channel. Having more subscribers will help your videos to get a more consistent number of views.
22. Drive your vehicle
The apps notify you when someone in your area needs a ride. This is way better than driving around hoping to get flagged down by someone.
You’ll want to keep your ratings up as well. Here are some tips:
- Have a light conversation with your passenger if possible.
- Keep your vehicle clean.
- Use air condition.
- If you know a shortcut take it. People love when you get them to their destination faster.
23. Deliver Food
Gone are the days of delivering only pizza. Use UberEats to deliver food from a variety of restaurants straight to the customer’s doorstep.
DoorDash is another food ordering app similar to UberEats. One of the main differences is you receive DoorDash branded gear when you become a “dasher” (deliverer).
Join both to maximize your earnings!
24. Rent out your vehicle
If your vehicle is just idle in the garage or on the street it’s just losing money because of depreciation. Use an app called Getaround to share your vehicle with other people who need to borrow one for a certain period of time.
Get paid for your vehicle with Getaround.
25. Teach English Online
Ever thought about teaching from the comfort of your home? Well, now it’s possible with VIPKid.
You can earn $14-$22/hr teaching different children in one-on-one classes. VIPKid will provide the lesson plans and communicate with the parents so you can just focus on teaching.
Become a teacher with VIPKid.
26. Get paid to eat
I know you never thought that you could actually make money by eating but yes it’s true. There’s a special site called Healthywage which pays you to eat.
The way you earn money is by:
- Signing up on Healthywage here.
- Use the calculator to enter your goal and calculate your winnings.

27. Sell your old Phone
If you’re looking to upgrade your current phone or have old phones at home that you aren’t using anymore, sell them with Gazelle.
Just follow these simple steps:

- Answer a few questions to determine the condition of the device.

28. Sell your artwork
I recently found this site which is basically like the Amazon for print on demand products created by artists. It’s called Redbubble.
Redbubble gives you access to a wide selection of products such as t-shirts, phone cases, posters and more which you can use to place your designs on to make them stand out. The site handles everything for you, from printing and shipping through to ongoing customer service, giving you more time to focus on creating art and designs.
29. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is the act of promoting a company’s products in exchange for a commission for each product sold or for a person signing up to their service. It’s a great way to make some extra income if you have a website.
Even though using a blog is one of the best ways to make money online, with affiliate marketing, it’s not necessary. You can actually use your social media channels to promote your affiliate links too.
I love affiliate marketing because it pays more than ads especially when you just started or don’t receive much traffic to your site.
