Have you ever heard of Grammarly?
Maybe you’ve seen one of their ads but never thought to try it. This is why I created this review to give you a better understanding of why Grammarly is the ultimate grammar check for sentences.
Let me just tell you now that Grammarly is by far the best grammar check online service I’ve ever used. It’s way more advanced than the grammar check on Microsoft Word.
What is Grammarly?
Grammarly is an automated proofreader and grammar check online tool that analyzes and corrects over 400 types of spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. It can also enhance vocabulary usage and suggest citations in your online writing. You can call it grammar check software that simply helps you to correct typing mistakes.
The way how Grammarly works is it scans your text for common and complex grammatical mistakes such as misspelled words, comma usage, missing article, repetitive words, weak adjectives, and much more. Then it gives you suggestions to correct these errors.
See the video below made by Rob for a little insight into Grammarly.
Why and How I started using Grammarly
I was tired of typing documents online with little to no support for checking the mistakes I was making in my writing. This was especially frustrating when I was interacting with clients via email or submitting proposals for work.
Often, I would find myself looking back at the document realizing different mistakes I didn’t notice after proofreading myself.
Then I was watching a Youtube video and saw a Grammarly ad. It sparked my interest. I took to the web to find out some more information about Grammarly and if it was worth my time. I’m glad I made that decision!
Now, I use Grammarly as my go-to grammar check online tool for all of my documents, emails, and any other written online content.
Why you should be using Grammarly
Once you use the internet to type any text, then Grammarly is perfect for you.
You might not think you need it but take a look at the types of people who are using Grammarly right now:
- Job Seekers
- Non-native English speakers, and so much more!

Let me show you an example of the extension working in Outlook on the web.
The #2 circled red shows the number of errors Grammarly identified in your text. In this instance, I had two errors in my document.
STEP 3: Install Grammarly for Microsoft Office (Premium Version Only)
With this app, you get all the features of Grammarly in your Microsoft Word document and on Outlook.
STEP 4: Install the Grammarly desktop application onto your computer

My experience with Grammarly
Even as I’m writing this post, Grammarly is highlighting all of my errors. You can see this in the screenshot below.
I’m a blogger so I have to make sure that my articles are of the highest quality. Don’t you hate reading an article only to see a simple grammatical mistake? One mistake here, another there, it all adds up and makes your blog look unprofessional.
As a blogger, you aim to keep readers glued to your content so they keep coming back for more. Don’t chase them away.
Furthermore, I’m a freelancer. I perform copywriting services for my clients using a freelance platform called UpWork.
As a copywriter, my aim is to compel readers to take action with whatever I’m promoting for my clients. That could be purchasing a product or service, or signing up on their website for a consultation. In my writing, there’s no way I’m going to convince someone to buy a product with a bunch of mistakes in the copy.
Also, ensuring emails and proposals to clients are grammatically correct is important too. I can’t tell you how many times I sent proposals to clients with grammatical mistakes. I would wonder why I never heard back from them.
It’s all about looking professional.
Free Vs Premium Version
I’ve previously used the free version of Grammarly and it’s awesome too. However, the free version limits you to spelling and grammatical mistakes only. In the free version, you will see these icons at the bottom right corner of your text if you have any errors.
When you use the premium version you get:
- Vocabulary enhancement suggestions (very useful in my experience)
- Plagiarism detection
- Citation suggestions
Other Points Of Note
- The Grammarly browser extension doesn’t support Google Docs at the moment, only Gmail.
- The app isn’t perfect since you may still find a mistake or two after proofreading but it makes the process a whole lot easier, saving me precious time.
- There’s no app for mobile phones. I would prefer to use a Grammarly app any day if it was available than the autocorrect that comes with the phone.
Despite this, I love the fact that when I’m on the internet typing my emails, blog articles, social media posts, and Microsoft Word documents, my text is constantly being scanned for grammatical errors.
